SUMMARY:The Anti-Inevitable: Kwentuhan On Filipino Folklore For Freedom
DESCRIPTION:For Filipino American History Month\, we’ll explore Filipino folklore as a source of resistance and a powerful force in art making through an anti-imperialist lens. By returning to stories passed down across generations\, we can recognize how folklore challenges colonial narratives and carries ways of seeing the world that imperial power has sought to diminish. This discussion will be led by Radix worker-owner Dennis Madamba. We’ll then shape what comes next in a clay-making workshop led by artist Rhianon Cha-os. The Artists Dennis Madamba is a Filipino American illustrator\, organizer\, and worker-owner at Radix Printing and Publishing Cooperative. His work draws from folklore and family history\, and has been recognized by the AIGA\, American Illustration\, and ICON. Rhianon Cha-os is a designer and illustrator based in New York City. Her work draws on a range of influences\, from folk to pop art\, and often incorporates cultural references pulled from film\, music\, the supernatural and indigenous folk traditions. She works in digital illustration and acrylic on canvas and continues to explore other mediums like clay and tin art.\n\nhttps://www.bklynlibrary.org/calendar/anti-inevitable-kwentuhan-library-for-arts-culture-20261028-0600pm
