Recurring series
Join us for the screening of two documentaries, "Invisible Visible 未见之见" and "Silenced Sunrise: Taiwan’s Music vs. The China Factor”, for a look at how censorship shapes what people can see, hear, and say. The program brings together two films, Invisible Visible 未见之见 and Silenced Sunrise: Taiwan’s Music vs. The China Factor , to explore the intersections of internet censorship, artistic expression, and popular culture. Connecting Joyce Yu-Jean Lee’s FIREWALL Café project with Chen-Yu Lin’s documentary and research, the screenings open up a wider conversation about censorship, creative freedom, and the power of cultural expression. Together, the films invite audiences to consider how visibility, access to information, and cultural narratives are shaped and contested across borders. Joyce Yu-Jean Lee’s film follows her ten-year FIREWALL Café project , which uses interactive art to confront internet restrictions. Chen-Yu Lin’s film, presented by TaiwanPlus and Cardiff University, examines how China’s political influence reaches Taiwan’s music scene. Paired together, they ask who controls access to information, how popular culture becomes contested ground, and how artists respond when their work crosses borders and digital platforms. A conversation with the filmmakers about freedom of expression and the stories communities tell about themselves will follow the screening. A reception with light refreshments will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by the screening at 6:30 p.m.
